In honor of Administrative Professionals Week, Daymar College is honoring our Directors of First Impressions on multiple career college campuses in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Administrative Professionals Week brings attention to the important role that administrators play in various sectors in the worldwide economy. On the Wednesday of the week, Administrative Professionals Day is usually observed in offices by treating administrators to lunch or giving gifts to show appreciation. We’re thanking our integral administrative professionals with public recognition for their contributions.

Director of First Impressions Johanna Houston knows how to relate to Daymar College students. That’s because she’s a Daymar College student herself.

At the Nashville Campus, Johanna is the first person that prospective students meet and that current students see, she is responsible for creating a positive, lasting impression on students. Her firsthand experience as a student gives her a unique means to understand student challenges and provide support.Daymar College Director of First Impressions Johanna Houston

“Everyone knows Johanna as the upbeat and positive first impression of our campus,” Laurna Taylor, Associate Vice Chancellor of Campus Operations and Interim Campus President Nashville Campus, said. “She has made our students feel welcomed on campus and is always that encouraging person that our students need.”

Johanna is on a first-name basis with all the Nashville campus students, always there to hear about their goals, challenges and successes.

“I absolutely love hearing how proud our students are of their high scores and awards received,” she said.

But it’s not always about achievements. Part of contributing to student success is providing positive support and guidance when the journey gets difficult. Johanna values the Nashville campus students trust that she will assist them with any needs they may have.

“She is always kind and positive, even in delicate situations,” Laurna said.

Johanna is enrolled in Daymar College’s online program, so she can fit her studies around her job and raising her two young children. Even though that sounds like a lot to handle, Johanna says that her education is actually complementary to her career.

“As a Business Management student, I’m continuously learning new skills to apply toward my professional skills with Daymar,” she said. That particular real-world training is central to Daymar College’s success as a career college. And Johanna applies her skills learned at Daymar College to contribute to the success of other students.

She assists various departments, contributing to the student journey from enrollment to setting up graduation ceremonies. She also process enrollments, creates student & personnel files, orders supplies, assists multiple departments with various projects, and processes invoices to facilitate campus operations. Though her tasks are varied, Johanna is a valuable asset to the Daymar College Family, She contributes daily to the Daymar College mission and the ultimate goal of supporting students through to the day of their graduation.

“As a Daymar student and associate, I can honestly say that my experience has been great and I would personally recommend Daymar to my friends and family,” she said.

And if those friends and family decide to pursue a career-focused education, Johanna will be there to greet them with a smile.
